US Embassy in Armenia Requests Information on Sasna Tsrer Members and Their Relatives: Press

Hraparak newspaper writes that the US Embassy in Armenia has reportedly applied to Armenia’s law enforcement authorities, requesting information about the persons involved in the July 2016 takeover of a Yerevan police station, their relatives and supporters (including those in the media). The embassy, according to the newspaper, needs the information to ban these persons entry to the United States.

“It is rumored that media outlets and journalists who report on any Sasna Tsrer related issues or cover their ongoing trials are viewed as supporters and allies and can face issues when requesting a US visa,” Hraparak notes, adding that other foreign embassies in Armenia have also requested information about the Sasna Tsrer members and their relatives.

Hraparak sent an inquiry to the Armenian police to find out whether the US embassy in particular had actually applied to them for this information. The structure, however, refused to comment and advised the paper to apply directly  to the US embassy.
