Armenia’s Nаtional Security Service has revealed illegal customs clearance schemes in Norfolk Consulting LLC and arrested 4 people, including the CEO of the company Armen Unanyan on tax evasion allegations. According to NSS statement, the Armenian Tax Service had yielded to the Norfolk Consulting LLC an exclusive privilege to provide international transportation and customs services on goods imported from Turkey, China, and UAE. In addition, the Tax Service also allotted offices in its former customs house for the Norfolk Consulting LLC use.
The NSS states that the company often misrepresented the array of imported goods and submitted dishonest tax reporting to authorities thus reduce its tax liability. As a result of tax evasion, the company owes the Armenian government around seven million USD for tax period between August 2017 and May 2018.
The NSS also raided the Norfolk Consulting LLC and confiscated around 500 thousand USD along with bank cards and case related tax documents.
