Lump Sum Benefits Not To Let Children Go Hungry Due to Coronavirus

The Ministry of Labor and Social Issues will provide social assistance to families with minors if they have faced labor market issues due to the spread of the coronavirus.

The benefits will be lump sums in the amount of the minimum monthly salary set by law for each minor at the family. The minimum monthly salary was increased to 68.000 AMD since January 1, 2020. The eligibility for the benefits include the following criteria:

– both parents were laid off between March 15 and April 1, 2020,

– one of the parents was laid off between March 15 and April 1 2020, and the other one did not have a job,

– one of the parents was laid off between March 15 and April 1, 2020, and the other one is dead or recognized by court dead or missing,

– the single mother or care-taking parent (if the child’s parents are divorced) was laid off from March 15 and April 1, 2020.

This measure will not provide any relief to the thousands of unregistered low-wage workers and their children in Armenia.
