Within the framework of Transkaukazja (Transcaucasia) Festival (launched in Warsaw in 2004), Armenian contemporary artists and Art Laboratory NGO members Arthur Petrosyan, Garik Yengibaryan and Edgar Amroyan have been invited to take their street art to German city of Chemnitz.
As told to Epress.am by Garik Yengibaryan, the name of their work is “Transit Marshrutka [mini-bus] from Yerevan to Chemnitz”.
“We’ve been here for about a month already and we’ll have the chance to work for another month,” he said.
Both Yerevan impressions and new impressions from Chemnitz are expressed in the work, said Yengibaryan.
Recall, last year, Art Laboratory members were called in for questioning by police to give explanations on graffiti art depicting imprisoned journalist, chief editor of local daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”) Nikol Pashinyan that appeared in one of the pedestrian underpasses of Baghramyan Blvd. in central Yerevan.
Earlier, members from the same NGO had painted an image of a solider who had killed himself in another Yerevan pedestrian underpass. The work has since been erased, but it was featured in an exhibit at ACCEA (Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art).
