The Yakutsk Office of the Public Prosecutor has supported the state in charging an Armenian national who is accused of rape (Article 131 of Russia’s Criminal Code) and “abandoning to danger” (Article 125). Note, Yakutsk is the capital of the Sakha Republic of Russia, located 450 km south of the Arctic Circle.
According to the prosecutor’s office, in Jan. 2011, the accused raped a 19-year-old girl in a Moskvitch make of car then late at night threw the girl out of the car in a deserted area. As a result, the girl got frostbite on both hands and feet and her fingers had to be amputated.
The court has found the defendant guilty and has sentenced him to 4.5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony.
The sentence has not entered into force and can be appealed, reports Russian-language news service Baikal 24.
