The official Eurovision Song Contest website originally named Baku as an ancient Persian capital in its section on the city that will be hosting next year’s contest — which resulted in a public outcry in Azerbaijan, according to Baku-based news site Vesti.az.
The sentence originally read “The historical centre of Baku reveals its past, from its roots as a Persian capital,” but has since been changed. However, the offensive statement still came up in a recent Google search.
