Critics of Kim Kardashian are getting organized by creating an online petition to remove the entire Kardashian brood off of the E! Entertainment network, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
“In a grassroots effort, we have collected [thousands of] signatures for a petition asking E! Entertainment to remove the Kardashian suite of shows from their programming,” Cyndy Snider, the creator of the petition, tells Yahoo.
“We feel that these shows are mostly staged and place an emphasis on vanity, greed, promiscuity, vulgarity and over-the-top conspicuous consumption,” she continues.
As of this posting, Snider’s effort has been rewarded with more than 44,000 people signing the online petition at gopetition.com. It seems largely a symbolic gesture unless the movement can amass something more in the millions and actually encourage viewers not to tune in or advertisers to pull their promo spots from airing during the series.
Though, it might be enough for Snider and those who have joined her in this movement to just get their grievances about the family out to the public.
“While some may have begun watching the spectacle as mindless entertainment or as a sort of ‘reality satire,’ it is a sad truth that many young people are looking up to this family and are modeling their appearance and behavior after them,” Snider states. “I’ll remind you here that the Kardashian family fame largely started with a ‘leaked’ sex tape.”
“There is no particular religious or political platform behind our disgust; we are just finally fed up,” Snider adds.
THR contacted E! for a comment on the online petition and its effectiveness when it comes to the network’s decision making on the various Kardashian series, but the network didn’t immediately respond to our request.
In the meantime, the network has been promoting the upcoming fourth season of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, which features Humphries and debuts Nov. 27.
