Work in putting up the large Christmas tree began in Yerevan’s Republic Square today.
Every year, this work began at the start of December. Epress.am called the municipality to find out why this year the city began this work early.
Artur Gevorgyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department at Yerevan City Hall, said this was in order to avoid traffic ahead of New Year celebration.
“Since there’s more movement in the city during those days and so that there aren’t traffic jams, it was decided to place the Christmas tree early [this year]. Furthermore, the holiday spirit will be passed on to the city earlier. I think it’s not bad. By the way, Christmas trees are already being put up in other countries too,” he said.
