Ruling Party’s Actions Obliged Opposition Parties to Join Forces

The proposal by the four non-ruling parties to establish an ad-hoc commission to investigate the gas contracts signed with Russia was within the competence of the National Assembly, but the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) was not willing to accept it, designating these matters to the Public Services Regulatory Commission, said head of the Heritage Party parliamentary faction, Ruben Hakobyan, today.

Recall, the HHK voted against the proposal. 

HHK's decision was criticized also by Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF-D) parliamentary faction leader Armen Rustamyan. Referring to parliamentary speaker Hovik Abrahamyan's statement that he's willing to consider a format in which "to sit and talk," Rustamyan said that was the purpose of their proposed Commission — it was to be a platform for "sitting and discussing".

Both Hakobyan and Rustamyan said this experience once again shows that the only way to bring about change in this country is for the four non-ruling parties to join forces.

"The political arena must realistically assess the situation in the country, and the forces must fight together. The four parties share this view. Only the government says we are building a 'secure Armenia'," he said, referring to the campaign slogan of HHK leader, Armenian President Serzh Sargysan during his presidential election campaign.
