Moscow-Yerevan Plane with Armenian Defense Minister on Board Makes Emergency Landing

On Sunday, May 25, a plane travelling from Moscow to Yerevan had to make an emergency landing 40 minutes after take-off at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport. Among the passengers was Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan. This news was confirmed by defense ministry press secretary Artsrun Hovhannisyan.

"Today,  at 11:23 am, an Aeroflot airline company plane took off from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport toward Yerevan. After 40 minutes, the smoke detector alarm went off, testifying to the presence of smoke in the baggage compartment," an unnamed spokesperson for the Department of Transport of Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs told the Russian Interfax news agency [RU].

He said the crew decided to turn the plane around and go back to the airport. None of the 161 passengers or 8 crew members were injured.
