"The Azerbaijani side attempted to penetrate and do a reconnaissance at the state border between the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and the Republic of Armenia in the direction of Karvajar [Kelbajar]," reports the press service of the defense authorities of the de facto Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the official report, the reconnaissance and sabotage group was caught in time, and some of their members were arrested, while others escaped. The Armenian side suffered no losses.
Epress.am spoke with a resident of Kelbajar, who said at around 2 pm on July 8, a woman from the village noticed two Azerbaijanis in the village and called the police in the capital, Stepanakert. Later, police succeeded in catching one of the men, while the other escaped.
According to the Kelbajar resident, the Azerbaijani man held captive is around 40 years old, while the one who escaped was closer to 50. The search to find him continues. "It was while they were getting dressed in a dilapidated home that one of the women in the village noticed that they're speaking Russian; she called the police; they came and caught them. Let me say that they weren't in military uniform," he said.
The resident said they have no other information about the enemy crossing the border and the actions they carried out in the area. They only know about one Azerbaijani being held captive. The resident said that the distance between the Azerbaijani border and Kelbajar is nearly 60 km.
