Electric Networks of Armenia Keeps Its Senior Managers’ Salaries Secret (Statement)

Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) keeps its senior officials' salaries secret, Union of Informed Citizens NGO said in a statement on Monday, June 15. Based on a letter from the ENA, the organization added, the size of the salaries of the Armenian power utility's high-ranking officials is kept secret not only from the Union of Informed Citizens, but also – the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC).

The NGO recalls that the ENA had appealed to PSRC for the increase of electricity tariffs, claiming the company was unable to cover electricity distribution costs with the current tariff.

“In other words, on June 17, PSRC is to gather and discuss the ENA's expenses (including salaries), without knowing how much the salaries of the company's officials are. Thus, the Commission has to blindly consider the ENA's salaries expense either justified or not.

“It appears that the ENA's top managers could be earning, say, a hundred million drams a month at the expense of the fees paid by the citizens, for which the electricity tariff will be raised, but the citizens and the PSRC might never actually know about this,” the organization said.
