Armenian Byureghavan's Glass World Company has promised to pay part of the back wages by November 15 in response to the employees' numerous complaints and protest actions in recent months, Epress.am was told by a staffer who wished to remain anonymous. Note, the plant came to a sudden standstill in August this year, and the company still owes its 300 employees 3 to 6 months' salaries.
“We picketed the plant [in Byureghavan], [held a protest action] in Yerevan asking the Government to help us. Now they’ve promised to pay part [of the wage arrears] by November 15. [The management] says they can't give it all at once; however, they haven't specified how much they'll pay on the 15th,” the interviewee said.
During a protest action in front of the Government building in late October, Aleksander Ghazaryan, Head of the Government's Department for Reception of Citizens and Discussion of Petitions, told the demonstrators the Cabinet could not help them since Glass World Company is a private firm and urged the employees to “go to court if you want to.”
