The Azerbaijani armed forces have detained 73-year-old Armenian citizen Lusine Abovyan on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement on November 9.
The resident of the town of Koti in Armenia's northeastern Tavush province, as stated by Azerbaijani officials, violated the Azerbaijani-Armenian border on Sunday. “[Lusine Abovyan] is being treated in accordance with international law and after appropriate procedures, she will be handed over to the opposite side.”
Speaking to Epress.am Chairman of Caucasus Center of Peace-Making Initiatives Georgi Vanyan said he was informed about the missing woman by Koti village head Feliks Melikyan. According to the human rights activist, he was first told that two Armenian women had appeared in Azerbaijan's Gazakh region by the Azerbaijani members of the rapid response team of the Tekali Process.
“I then called the heads of all border villages of Tavush and found out that [only one woman had crossed into Azerbaijan] – Koti village resident Lusine Abovyan,” Vanyan said.
