In Syunik marz (province) tomorrow, a demonstration is going to take place against the exploitation of uranium mines, said Sardarapat Movement member Tigran Khzmalyan, speaking to journalists today, adding that a group of Yerevan residents will be going to support Syunik residents tomorrow.
Khzmalyan and actor, filmmaker Yervand Manaryan said, “the exploitation of uranium in such a way cannot be allowed.” According to the activists, uranium mines in Syunik are carelessly exploited.
“Ten days ago, a uranium exploration vehicle burned under suspicious circumstances in Syunik marz. We have learned that people are already being asked to go to police division and there are attempts to extract false testimonies from them. They were saying, the lighting was the reason, then it became clear that someone with the surname ‘lighting’ had done it,” said Khzmalyan.
“I did it, I operated the remote control from here and the car blew up,” said Manaryan jokingly.
Since Manaryan couldn’t commit the “crime” alone, said Khzmalyan, so also he (Khzmalyan) and the Sardarapat Movement joined him.
“For this reason, we have begun a petition from today in support of Syunik resident and against such exploitation of uranium mines. We won’t allow for such a thing to take place,” he said.
