Azerbaijan does not intend to join either NATO or the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) until these organizations condemn Armenia for its “aggressive policy,” Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov told journalists today, reports Trend News.
‘In addition, Russia and Azerbaijan have conducted negotiations on the issue of military cooperation since 1992. But we have always set conditions before Moscow about the liberation of our occupied lands and resolution of the Karabakh conflict. However, unfortunately, nothing has been done in this direction. How can Azerbaijan be within CSTO, if aggressor Armenia is part of this organization?’, he said, reports News.az.
Hasanov also noted that Azerbaijan is not going to join either NATO or CSTO unless these organizations condemn “the aggressor.”
He also commented on the agreement on military cooperation reached between Russia and Armenia.
‘The flank agreement on armament which defined the quota of arms for the South Caucasus countries was signed between Azerbaijan, Russia, Armenia and Georgia within OSCE in 1992. We consider that the signing of the recent agreement between Moscow and Yerevan can break the regulations of the aforementioned flank agreement’, he said.
According to Hasanov, OSCE must also voice its position on this issue. At the same time, he noted that Azerbaijan is not going to interfere with the bilateral relations between Russia and Armenia.
