The contract signed between Yerevan and Moscow to extend the term of Russia’s military base in Armenia was signed with the backing of the US, said Azerbaijani political analyst Natika Miri, reports Azerbaijani news source Yeni Musavat.
Acording to the analyst, by taking that step, Moscow and Washington wish to force Azerbaijan to make concessions in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, or at least force the country resign from bellicose projects.
“The prevention of war in the region stems from both the US’ and Russia’s interests, since, in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, they are interested in Azerbaijan being dependent on them,” said Miri.
