Salaries ‘Eat Up’ Yerevan State University Budget: Rector

The Yerevan State University’s (YSU) annual budget is 6.5 billion AMD (about $17.9 million USD), which is determined by the YSU board and ratified by the chair, said YSU rector Aram Simonyan at a press conference today on the university budget.

“Regretfully, I have to say that a large part of the budget is spent on salaries: they make up nearly half of the overall budget. Approximately 250 million AMD (about $687,600 USD) is spent on salaries monthly, which is a large amount. Also included in the list of large expenses are scientific expenses, including computers and equipment. Rounding up the budget as well are the university’s utility bills,” said Simonyan.
