Nalbandian to Talk to Georgian FM Vashadze on His Latest Statement

Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) doesn’t agree with Tbilisi’s opinion that extending the term of Russia’s military base in Gyumri threatens Armenia’s sovereignty, said MFA press secretary Tigran Balayan.

As reported in the press yesterday, Georgia’s MInister of Foreign Affairs Grigol Vashadze had said that the increase of Russian military bases in the South Caucasus is a big threat to Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia’s sovereignty.

“We don’t agree with that opinion. Our position, connected to extending the term of Russia’s military base, has numerously been stated by the country’s leader. I think that the reports disseminated by Azerbaijan’s mass media are distorted,” said Balayan.

The MFA press spokesperson also noted that a telephone conversation is going to take place today between Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian and Georgia’s foreign minister Grigol Vashadze.
