The Shakespeare International Theater Festival named after V. Papazyan kicks off this year on Sept. 15 at the Sundukyan State Academic Theatre of Yerevan. This year’s festival is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Soviet Armenian theatre expert Ruben Zaryan.
Meeting with journalists today, actor Ara Deghtrikyan spoke about the Shakespeare theatre season and announced that the Sundukyan theatre will present “Legend about Macbeth.” According to him, this theatre performance differs from others by its vivid imagination and good direction. Deghtrikyan stressed that the performance was requested by the state and sponsored by the RA Ministry of Culture.
Theatre troops from other countries, including Ukraine and Italy, will also present their work during the festival. Yerevan’s Hrachia Ghaplanyan State Drama Theatre will present Julius Caesar.
Asked by journalists whether Shakespeare plays are modern for the present day, Deghtrikyan said there’s nothing more modern than the classics — such greatness as was Shakespeare even more so.
