If the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin participated in the liturgy at Aghtamar’s Holy Cross Armenian Church, the there would’ve been an opportunity to have a requiem commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide, said Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Director Hayk Demoyan at a press conference today.
He said, however, that he considers the response of Armenia and the Armenian church to be adequate and welcomes it, since the issue of Turkey allowing an Armenian cross on the church or not showed that this is simply Turkey’s next theatrical act.
“Turkey’s not that country where serious progress will take place in the democratic process with a wave of a magic wand,” he said.
Furthermore, Demoyan said that the time is right for Armenia to come forth with a proposal: to register the historic capital of Ani in the list of UNESCO historical and cultural heritage monuments, since it’s a historic heritage site not only for Armenia, but also for the whole word.
