Former goalkeeper for Armenia’s national team, Apoula Edima Édel Bete’s passport has been recognized as being legitimate. Recall that the athlete’s former agent and coach Nicolas Philibert had said that the goalkeeper’s real name wasn’t really Édel and that he’s 29, not 24, years old. According to Philibert, he has the evidence to prove it.
Accepting Philibert’s statement as a basis, Spain’s Sevilla FC lodged a complaint with UEFA, asking that its 0-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain FC in Europa League be annulled.
However, Édel, born and raised in Cameroon but currently living in France, presented his passport to French police, which, according to a Le Parisien report, confirmed its authenticity.
Édel’s attorney, Christoph Bigot, in turn, announced that they have his client’s birth certificate, as well as his passport, in which Armenia entry stamps can be found.
