Today, Armenian National Congress youth held a march dedicated to liberating Freedom Square.
The march began from Koryun Street then headed toward Yerevan City Hall. During the march, participants were calling out “Free, independent Opera,” in reference to the familiar slogan “Free, independent Armenia” but adapted for the particular situation (Freedom Square is on the grounds of Yerevan’s Opera building).
March participants informed Yerevan residents that there’s one more added to the list of political prisoners in Armenia: Freedom Square. Reaching city hall, demonstrators were greeted with numerous police officers, as well as a number of artistic groups, who were most likely there because of the upcoming Yerevan-Erebuni celebrations.
“Freedom Square is held captive, and Chorni Gago [“Black Gago,” a derogatory name used to refer to Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan] and his team, hiding in this building, have committed to doing Serzh Sargsyan’s bidding. So let’s fight for the liberation of Freedom Square,” said the youth to those gathered at the city hall grounds.
After some time, the youth returned to the HAK office, shouting their slogans along the way.
On the way back, passing by the RA General Prosecutor’s office, demonstrators exclaimed that 14 political prisoners are behind bars because of Aghvan Hovsepyan.
A number of police officers followed demonstrators along their march, but did not interfere.
