Armenian Football Experiencing a Revival: PM

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan was at the final round of the RA Prime Minister’s Cup 2010 football tournament yesterday in which teams from the RA General Prosecutor’s office and RA Ministry of Defense were competing against each other.

The match ended with a 3-0 victory for the defense ministry, who was awarded the coveted cup by the country’s prime minister.

It’s notable that Tigran Sargsyan, in his remarks, also mentioned the overall situation of Armenian football (soccer):

“Football in Armenia is experiencing a revival. The Armenian national team’s stunning victory against Andorra yesterday is one of the testimonies of this. Today’s victory is not only the Ministry of Defense’s [victory], but all of ours, for which I congratulate you. Our aim is to turn sport, football, into a mass [event] and get back our football fame in 1973. I am convinced that the Football Federation of Armenia has put that goal before it and will succeed. The purpose of this tournament, however, is to get the public’s attention on football.”
