Students Cannot be Bought: ‘Prosperous Armenia’ Youth Protest

At around 1 pm today, about 100 representatives from the political party Prosperous Armenia, including members of its youth wing as well as MP Vahe Enfiajyan, staged a protest in front of the editorial offices of the paper Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”).

Recall that the local Armenian daily, in its yesterday issue, published a story in which it said that students from the Vanadzor State Pedagogical Institute were offered 5,000 AMD (about $14 USD) each to participate in an Oct. 30 Prosperous Armenia event in the city of Spitak in Armenia’s Lori region.

The youth are asking Haykakan Jamanak to retract its story, announcing loudly through megaphones that they cannot be bought.

Note that though police were circling the area, the demonstration passed without incident.
