Anger over Turkey’s Conflict with Israel Could Lead to Republican Support for Armenian Genocide Resolution

Though the official results of the US congressional elections have not yet publicized, Turkish media is already reporting on how the Armenian Genocide resolution might be addressed in Congress.

Republican gains could add uncertainties for relations with Turkey, writes Today’s Zaman, citing AP. 

In previous periods of Republican control of the House of Representatives, party leaders have blocked attempts to pass resolutions recognizing the Armenian Genocide — Republicans have traditionally supported the NATO ally. But anger in both major parties has risen over Turkish conflict with Israel and ties with Iran.

Republican lawmaker Mike Pence, who helps guide party strategy in the House, has said he might reconsider opposition to a resolution because of Turkish positions on Israel.
