A series of four films produced in Azerbaijan in 2007 and 2008 will be screened on Nov. 12 at 4 pm at 5 Tamanyan St. Apt #2, near the Cascade in Yerevan. The Caucasus Center of Peace-Making Initiatives (CCPI), with the support of the US Embassy in Armenia, invites the public to this free screening of one documentary and three feature films.
The festival competition program, along with a special feature film produced, will take place on Nov. 13 at 2 pm. Only one of the films will receive the Audience Sympathy Award, which is determined through audience voting.
According to an official press release issued by the organizers, sent to Epress.am by festival organizer and CCPI President Georgy Vanyan:
“The Azerbaijanian film festival ‘STOP’ is an exclusive opportunity to get acquainted with the best examples of contemporary Azerbaijani cinematography. The Festival is an island of secure environment for direct communication surrounded by the conditions of distorted human values, and propaganda that poisons healthy civilized relations.”
Recall that the film festival was initially set to take place Nov. 2–4; however, as a result of numerous hateful and xenophobic comments left on the Facebook event page, organizers decided to postpone the event. Further, a number of those opposing the event posted a “counter” event on the social networking site, calling on supporters to join them in a protest demonstration at the site and day of the event. The protest, however, did not happen.
