Armenian political prisoner Felix Gevorgyan will be released today, Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners and Persecuted People coordinator Vardan Harutyunyan told Epress.am.
“The court still has to decide, but it’s likely that political prisoner Felix Gevorgyan will be released,” he said.
Recall that rallies in defense of political prisoners in Armenia today were organized in four cities — Yerevan, Hrazdan, Maralik and Idjevan. Demonstrators in Yerevan had gathered in front of the General Prosecutor’s office.
A few dozen citizens, as well as members of opposition bloc the Armenian National Congress (HAK), had stood in front of the building with posters and placards, asking for the immediate release of political prisoners.
“Such rallies and also other events will eventually lead to the release of all political prisoners,” former political prisoner Levik Khachatryan told Epress.am.
As for Felix Gevorgyan’s possible release, his father, Petros Gevorgyan, who was participating in today’s rally, told Epress.am that he doesn’t know anything. “I don’t yet know anything, we’ll see what happens.”
According to him, Felix Gevorgyan had written an appeal two months ago not to release him early, but the appeal wasn’t approved.
