At around 3 pm on Feb. 4, chief officers with the RA Police criminal investigation unit detained about 20–25 people from the restaurant complex Buzard in Charles Aznavour Square in the city of Gyumri, reports local daily Aravot (“Morning”).
Among those arrested were “thieves in law” well known in the world of organized crime Andranik Soghoyan, 43; Gevorg Melikyan, 41; Alexander Makaryan, 47; Samvel Harutyunyan, 38; Rafael Khoretsyan, 32; as well as key figures in organized crime Aram Vardanyan, 40, and Spartak Ghukasyan, 37, the son of Gyumri mayor Vardan Ghukasyan. All were searched then released well into the middle of the night. The Shirak marz (province) regional police department is preparing material for the case, reports Aravot.
