At 10 am today, MP Zaruhi Postanjyan went to visit her imprisoned brother, Tigran Postanjyan, in Yerevan’s Kentron (Center) penal institution, which is located in the National Security Service (NSS) building (formerly the KGB building).
Zaruhi Postanjyan handed over her brother’s clothes and asked to see her brother in the cell, but she was prohibited from doing so.
At 11:30 am, prison chief Nelson Zakaryan called Zaruhi and said she can now go visit her brother. After receiving the call, she went to the cell, only to be told that at 11:30 am today, her brother was transfered to Nubarashen penal institution. Tigran Postanjyan’s attorney Hayk Alumyan responded to the news by saying it was an attempt to pressure his client through Nubarashen prison’s criminal underworld representatives.
As previously reported, Tigran Postanjyan, who works for the local government of Yerevan’s Arabkir district, is being charged with allegedly accepting a bribe of 100,000 drams (about $275 US) last September to turn a blind eye to illegal construction carried out by a local resident. The Postanjyans and their supporters claim that this is political vengeance, retaliation to Zaruhi Postanjyan’s political activities.
