Narek Avetisyan’s “33 Modifications in Simulacrum of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring Painting” will be exhibited at 5 pm on Mar. 15 and 7 pm on Mar. 30, the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art (ACCEA, or NPAK in Armenian) in Yerevan.
Avetisyan is one of the famous contemporary artists in post-Soviet Armenia.
The Simulcarum presented by the artist is a completely multi-dimensional project comprised of paintings, video animation and accompanying music. The project is based on 33 variations (copies) of 17th century famous Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring painting made according to the individual style of world painters, including popular styles of Armenian painting. The paintings are accompanied by an animation series, which measures time and movement and shows the images, one transforming into another.
