Mud Rains and Dust in Neighboring Georgia Tied to Military Operations in Libya

Tbilisi, like Yerevan, today experienced mud rains. According to Georgian news agency GHN, the Hydrometeorological Service of Georgia has said that the unusual weather is not associated with increased radiation.

“A southeast wind has brought dust from Libya and Egypt with the air masses, which led to the unusual precipitation,” said Hydromet Georgia.

According to weather forecasts, the anomaly will last in Georgia till Apr. 24.

Georgian Green Party leader Gia (George) Gachechiladze was quoted by Georgia Online as suggesting that the atmospheric sand is due to military operations in Libya. “As a result of explosions in the desert, dust penetrates the atmosphere and the mud rain is as a result of this.”

As previously reported, Armenia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Hydrometeorology and Monitoring State Service stated that the same unusual weather condition seen in Yerevan and the surrounding regions is simply a desert storm, same as that which occurred last year. State officials also confirmed that this has nothing to do with the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant about 30 km from Armenia’s capital.
