Well-known Azeri GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov has been in an accident, reports apasport.az, adding that the incident took place in the city of Sumgait.
The Range Rover that Mamedyarov was driving collided with a VAZ 2107 (Lada Riva) vehicle. According to witnesses, the car was driven off the road, over the sidewalk, skidding about 25–30 meters till coming to a stop.
According to the latest information, there were no deaths. It is reported that Mamedyarov escaped with minor injuries in his hand and right leg.
The chess player confirmed the incident. “It all happened so suddenly. I don’t understand. Praise be to Allah, no one died. I feel a little pain in my hand. The driver of the other car is also alive and well.”
