If one considers the Karabakh conflict from the local perspective, it can be said that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is in a state to ensure its security, what is now being done, said president of the de-facto Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan in an interview with Ekho Moskvy (“Echo of Moscow”) radio.
“If we view this more globally, taking into account the fact that this threat concerns not only Karabakh and the Karabakh people, we believe that responsibility must be borne also by members of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), European states and a number of countries in the world community.
“Because along with guaranteeing the security of our citizens, we ensure certain universe values. We find ourselves in a situation where we feel responsible in this issue because at all times, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh have participated in the creation of human values. These were during different periods in history; we are now willing to continue our mission on this matter. It just so happened that for many years, we remained to a certain extent isolated; nevertheless, we carry out certain tasks which don’t relate only to us.
“And today several countries of the European and international community because of our unrecognized status have no relations with us, but they are willing to have relations and cooperate with the state that is ruled by the canons of the Sultanate and where medieval canons find their place in the life of the Azerbaijani state. They are willing to cooperate with this state. We believe that a number of countries are guided by double standards,” said the NKR leader.
