Obama’s Plans in Iran Won’t Have Effect on Karabakh Conflict: Analyst

The events surrounding Iran won’t affect the state of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict because Iran is not a major player in the conflict, said Russian expert Ruslan Shamgunov in an interview with 1news.az.

According to the expert, the situation with Iran will remain the same.

“I think that everything will continue in the same manner which we see today. Iran will be criticized for its nuclear program, it will be pressured, and perhaps even sanctions will be applied, with which not everyone will comply. Iran, in turn, will defend its position, expressing willingness to make some concessions in taking control of nuclear facilities. There won’t be critical breakthroughs, if, of course, [US President Barack] Obama doesn’t decide that in order to win the upcoming presidential election, a small victorious battle wouldn’t hurt. But I don’t really believe this scenario because Iran isn’t Iraq and the response to this war will be different. In any case, the Iranian war won’t affect the state of the Karabakh conflict because Iran is not an influential player in the settling of the conflict,” he said.
