Homeowners promised apartments in new buildings on Aram, Buzand, Yekmalyan and Saryan streets in Yerevan who were protesting at the intersection of Baghramyan and Demirchyan today were unable to deliver a letter to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. This news was conveyed to Epress.am by one of the protestors, Sona Maghakyan.
“We came in the morning with the hope that the president rushing to work would notice us and perhaps take an interest in the issue for which we came here, but in vain. After wasting meaningless time and nerves for days on the sidewalk across from the president’s office, we decided to wait for the president at the corner [of the street] and deliver the letter to him personally. The two, three dozen police officers surrounded us in advance and didn’t allow us even to walk on the spot. Prior to the president’s arrival, [assistant to the president Armen] Abelyan approached us and urged us to give him the letter. I countered, I am preparing to personally deliver the letter to the president; however, he said that’s impossible.
“I apologized, saying I don’t know him, so I can’t give him the letter. Abelyan left; a little while later, the presidential motorcade arrived. Police officers, forming a wall, surrounded us, but I was waving the letter in the air… the presidential motorcade passed us. We lost also this last hope. All this time we were coming here we thought that till now all our letters were undelivered and the president was unaware of our issues. We now know that this is all governed from above and all are well aware, but nothing interests anyone. For years we have been ignored by our government and the same continues today,” she said.
