Former Deputy Justice Minister Elected as Armenia’s New Ombudsman

With 96 votes in favour, Armenia's National Assembly on Monday elected former deputy justice minister Arman Tatoyan as the country's new Human Rights Ombudsman. 7 MPs voted against the appointment, while 4 ballots were considered null.

Tatoyan was proposed as an Ombudsman candidate by the ruling Republican Party's parliamentary faction and secured the endorsement of the NA's Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs on February 12.

In a speech following his election, Armenia's 4th Ombudsman swore to impartially protect the rights and interests of Armenian citizens.
