A Russian court has annulled the marriage of Republic of Armenia citizen Azat Tonapetyan and a local resident.
As a result of inspections by supervisory bodies, it became apparent that Tonapetyan had applied to the Federation Migration Service to receive a temporary residence permit, taking into account his October 2009 wedding to a citizen of the Russian Federation. It turned out that the marriage was carried out under false pretenses, since the couple neither live together nor have contact with each other.
Thus, the Saratov regional court ruled that Tonapetyan had married with the sole aim of acquiring citizenship, reports Russian news source Fourth Estate.
