Winner of the 2010 New Wave song contest Sona Shahgeldyan today made journalists wait 35 minutes in a hot room at URPAT (“Friday”) Press Club, instead presenting her dog Hilda, who during the entire press conference, expressed her love by occasionally licking journalists’ microphones. Sona explained her tardiness by saying she was quite busy.
After numerous expressions of gratitude for Armenia TV and Sharm company, her supporters in the New Wave contest, Sona described how much labor-intensive work she underwent prior to leaving and how much she worked during those few days of the contest.
“I’m a hard-working and talented person, and I had decided to win. To tell you the truth, if any of the contestants proved to be better than I, let them win, but I was the best. And most importantly, if I wasn’t an honest and good person, I wouldn’t have won: I was quite candid on stage. It’s true, there hasn’t been a group of supporters, but my family and Latvia’s Armenian community, headed by St. Khosrov, have been by my side,” said the singer, adding that during her three performances, she had held a small cross in her hand, since she’s a big believer in God.
A portion of her prize money will be allocated to orphanages and children who are ill, and another portion to a fund for the protection of stray animals.
“I’ve loved animals since I was young, and helped to feed them, take care of them and so on; thanks to my good work, God provides for me,” said Sona.
