Suicide Prohibited in Russia’s Armed Forces

Russia’s Ministry of Defense gives doubtful commands to draftees so that they may survive in the Russian army, including asking injured soldiers not to break the law, to show endurance, to hide in the area of the military unit when subjected to torture and under no circumstances to commit suicide, reports Russian paper Moskovsky Komsomolets.

If a soldier is threatened with physical violence, in accordance with the Defense Ministry’s directives, he must do the following: “Never show that you are afraid, [rather] show manliness. This way, you will score a psychological and moral victory. If, however, you see a real danger of being attacked, attempt to calm yourself with this thought: ‘The law is on my side. Justice will be restored.’ If attacked, you can protect yourself, but only moderately,” notes newsru.com.

Specific prohibited acts are clearly communicated to those serving in the army: “We will not entertain the thought,… leaving the military unit or committing suicide, to be used as way of protest, is prohibited.”
