Different groups with varying demands had gathered Thursday in front of the government building in Yerevan, including the parents of conscripts who recently died for unknown reasons while serving in the Armenian army. They were demanding a fair and just hearing, saying they have nothing more to lose and they will fight till the truly guilty are punished.
Gohar Sargsyan, mother of Tigran Ohanjanyan, who passed away on August 30, 2007, while serving in Karjaghbyur 28/418 military unit, told Epress.am that the official cause of her son’s death was declared to be electric shock; however, on January 10, 2010, according to Court of First Instance ruling, that cause was ruled out. The military prosecution objected to the ruling in the Courts of Appeal and Cassation, but in both instances, the Court of First Instance ruling was upheld.
Currently, said Sargsyan, the case is with the military prosecutor’s office, where a new case has been made and is currently in the preliminary stage.
“It’s because of our consistency [in following up on the matter] that the groundless diagnosis of electric shock was ruled out. Let them now examine and punish the criminal. I myself know who has killed my son, but, at this point, I’m not raising the alarm.”
