Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian has said that Armenia-Russia relations are the most successful and the most exemplary among the post-Soviet states.
“Armenia’s and Russia’s relations are not just friendly. Currently, we are preparing for Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s official visit, which means that our relations are on the highest level,” said the minister in his interview with Russian TV channel Russia 24.
He also stated that, in the last 2 years, more than two dozen official meetings have taken place on the highest level.
Upon Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s invitation, Medvedev, along with his wife, Svetlana Medvedeva, will come to Yerevan on August 19 for an official visit.
“Strategic alliances have been formed between the two countries, and these aren’t simply words… strategic cooperation couldn’t be strong if there weren’t fundamental relations, sympathy and warmth between the nations,” said Nalbandian.
“It wasn’t just once that, during history, our fathers and grandfathers fought together on the battlefield, including during the Great Patriotic War,” said the minister, emphasizing that a majority of Armenia’s senior generation of men fought in the Great Patriotic War.
Armenia’s foreign minister stated that the Armenian and Russian presidents will participate in the opening of the monument dedicated to Russian soldiers who died during the Russo-Turkish war, which will take place during Medvedev’s official visit. The opening of the restored “Hill of Honor” monument will take place on August 20 in Armenia’s second-largest city, Gyumri, reports News Armenia.
