The agreement signed with the Russian Federation to build a new nuclear power plant (NPP) in Armenia implies that Russia will participate in the NPP’s construction and will have a direct investment, said Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan in a recent interview with Armenia’s Public Television.
According to the PM, the projected cost for this initiative is $5 billion USD.
“Our Russian partners will also be participating in that investment program: that’s the meaning of the agreement. We will be cooperating with our partners: there will be a new configuration, a new project, after which we will present detailed information more clearly to our public, as to what the nuclear power plant will be. But it’s obvious that the construction of the NPP implies improvements in the quality of our energy system. It’ll be a modern power plant, which will significantly add to the capacity of electricity produced in the Republic of Armenia. That means the overall development of our industry will have better prospects,” said Sargsyan.
