Republican Party of Armenia Parliamentary Faction Leader Galust Sahakyan considers the extension of Russia’s military base in Armenia to be disconcerting.
“It’s always a concern when a second country’s military base is placed in any country. It’s not a good thing,” he said at a press conference today.
Nevertheless, according to the MP, there exists a model that can keep the world “in balance.”
“We don’t have any problems to discuss, because the agreement holds value not only for the entire context of Armenia-Russia agreements, but also in the region,” he said.
According to Sahakyan, it’s plainly clear that there’s a centuries-old struggle in the South Caucasus between Russia and Turkey.
“Naturally, for us, we would prefer it to be Russia and not Turkey,” he said.
In Sahakyan’s opinion, for years Turkey has been raising its wishes connected with the South Caucasus, as if “with bloody hands, it’s going to keep the peace, create a new environment of mutual relations.”
But Russia, Sahakyan believes, turned out to be more resolute.
