A government official says landslides triggered by torrential rains have knocked down homes in northern Turkey, killing seven people, reports the Canadian Press.
However, according to WorldBulletin.net, the death toll has since risen to eight in the landslide in the northern province of Rize yesterday evening
Private NTV television said the landslide and heavy rains have shut down a highway in the region, while Rize Mayor Halil Bakirci told reporters that a school and several houses were inundated after Degirmendere river overflowed last night, reports WorldBulletin.net.
