“I can’t give you a 100% remedy, what the increase in potato prices are due to. For that, not only do you have to be a serious expert, but also you have to do a serious analysis, and I have come here without those analyses,” said Republican Party of Armenia MP Lernik Alexanyan at a press conference today.
The National Assembly deputy doesn’t doubt that the increase is connected with climate conditions and market relationships. Adding to the possible reasons, he said: “Naturally, they’ve planted less, since the market’s always had a surplus.”
In Alexanyan’s opinion, the state is obligated to have resources and be able to roughly forecast such situations.
The MP also turned his attention to the price of wheat, saying that they’re taking serious measures toward decreasing its prices. Two-thirds of wheat, said Alexanyan, is imported mainly from Russia, where an increase in the price of wheat is observed.
Alexanyan didn’t consider connecting the increase in prices with oligarchs in Armenia. Rather, he connects them, 60-70%, he says, with a “bad year.”
