Armenian National Congress (HAK) representatives, during their visits to Armenia’s regions (marzes), yesterday paid a visit to the cities of Hrazdan and Abovyan in Kotayk marz, where they met with local activists.
HAK’s representative in the Council of Europe, Arman Grigoryan, mainly spoke on the newly created geopolitical situation, noting that the prediction first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan during his address at the Pan-Armenian National Movement conference, is becoming a reality.
Speaking on events following Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Armenia, Grigoryan said that first, a very important change in the alignment of forces of the “superpowers” took place.
In his opinion, Russia has now managed to get up on its feet a little after the end of the Cold War and slowly it’s going to make attempts to regain some of the positions it previously lost; the most important and striking expression of that being the Russo-Georgian war, and the Armenian-Russian treaties: renewing the Armenia-Russia agreement and extending the contract of Russia’s military base in Armenia.
“This means that what Ter-Petrosyan said at the Pan-Armenian National Movement conference…. that Russia actually assumes the role of the leading power in the Caucasus, and therefore, the key to resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is in Russia’s hands… this analysis corresponds with that conclusion which Ter-Petrosyan had stated,” said Grigoryan.
Speaking also on the upcoming September 17 rally, Grigoryan said that two weeks after the rally, he will making a speech during the PACE Monitoring Committee and the main point of his speech is going to be the matter of political prisoners (prisoners of conscience), after which he urged those present to actively participate in the rally.
