By signing the treaty with Yerevan, Russia is not obligated to back Armenia if the Nagorno-Karabakh war resumes, said Russian historian Zurab Kananchev in an interview with Day.az.
“If one imagine that, in war, Azerbaijan will send blows into Armenia’s territory, then it’s still possible for CSTO countries to intervene. Even though everything’s not the same here, since it’s not clear how all the members of the organization will vote. However, irrespective of how events will develop, Russia in any case will be a mediator and not a participant in the war,” said the expert.
At the same time, Kananchev said that, as of today, the international community won’t allow the war to last longer than 7 days.
