A US official said Monday that Turkish police have detained a person who apparently tried to commit suicide near the US Embassy in Turkey, reports Hurriyet Daily News & Economic Review.
An embassy spokesperson said the person appeared to be armed and was taken away by police without any incident.
Turkey’s private Cihan news agency reported that the person was dressed in a black Islamic chador and held a gun to his or her head on a street near one the embassy entrance gates on Monday. It said the person was convinced by police to lay down the gun before being taken away to a police station.
