Armenian and Italian experts will be restoring Armenian painter Minas Avetisyan’s frescoes, head of the Directorate of Modern Art and Folk Art at the RA Ministry of Culture Sona Harutyunyan said at a press conference today.
This year, the government has allocated 20 million AMD for the restoration of two of Minas’ frescoes. Assisting Armenian specialists in the restoration of “Near the Khatchkar (Cross-stone)” and “Encounter” frescoes that are in the canteen building of Gyumri’s electric factory will be Fabricio Jakobini, who flew to Yerevan from Italy today. They will begin restoration work right away and aim to finish by September 10.
“In general, restoration works occurs in 3 stages,” said Harutyunyan.
The second stage of the reconstruction work will begin on September 27 and run through till October 6, while the third and final stage will begin on October 25 and be completed on November 3, after which the two frescoes will be moved to Yerevan and will be placed in the hall where government meetings take place.
“Afterwards, with the government’s assistance, we’ll move on to the other frescoes, which are many, many in Shirak marz [province],” said Harutyunyan, adding that the government will give the public an opportunity to become familiar with Minas’ work, by organizing an Open Doors Day, a single day a week, as is the case with the National Assembly.
